The Women’s Institute (WI) was formed in 1915 to revitalise rural communities and encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War. Since then, the organisation’s aims have broadened and the WI is now the largest voluntary women’s organisation in the UK. The WI currently has 212,000 members in around 6,600 WIs.
Thurlestone and West Buckland WI was formed in March 1928 and is part of the Devon Federation of WIs who have their headquarters near Exeter.
We currently have 52 members who enjoy a variety of speakers at the monthly meetings together with outings organised by DFWI (Devon Federation of WIs) and our own WI.
We are always pleased to welcome new members.
