Devon County Council - Live roadworks information

Devon County Council has developed an interactive roadworks map to provide present, future and completed activity that is taking, or has taken, place on the highway network in Devon.

To access the information on their interactive map please ensure that the map layers have been added. This is done via the blue button in the top left hand corner. You will then need to click the arrows and select the relevant sections you wish to see.

The map can be found here:  Interactive Roadworks Map

If the information you require is not displayed please let Devon County Council know by speaking with a live chat adviser or via their contact us page.

Devon Road Warden Scheme – Are you interested in volunteering?

Thurlestone Parish Council is now part of the Devon Highways “Road Warden Scheme”. This allows the community to carry out minor works such as filling small potholes, repairing signposts or clearing blocked drains, using funds from the County Council. The intention is not to do the Highways Department’s job for them, but to ensure that small issues don’t become major problems that we are forced to wait for a long time to be fixed. It will also give us a closer working relationship with the Highways team, so we can hopefully influence the priority of any larger scale work on our patch.

What are the benefits of the Road Warden Scheme?
  • Communities are able to carry out minor works which DCC are no longer able to resource and do not have a legal responsibility to carry out.
  • DCC provide third party insurance for the works.
  • Free training for Volunteers on DCC arranged courses

What type of work can be done by Road Warden volunteers?
  • Pothole repairs (when they do not meet our intervention criteria).
  • Clearing weeds.
  • Cleaning signs.
  • Cleaning drainage (gully grating).
  • Cutting grass.
  • Repairing finger posts.
  • Cutting hedges.
  • Set up a road closure for special events.
  • Managing verges for wildlife
All works will be discussed, in the first instance, with the local highway neighbourhood officer. This list is not exhaustive. Work must be undertaken in line with guidance (method statements) provided by Devon County Council. Please see the ‘Details’ tab for guidance documents.

Road Wardens would not be responsible for carrying out safety repairs as this remains the responsibility of the council.

What insurance cover does Devon County Council provide?
In the unlikely event of a claim, DCC will cover the public liability aspect of insurance for voluntary work on the public highway or footway, providing it is undertaken in a safe manner according to DCC advice. This, for example, would cover any claims by third party as a result of works, which the county council would defend if works were done in accordance with DCC advice.

If you would like to know more about the scheme, or feel you can spare a few hours to help, please contact Helen Leather via email at [email protected].  Full details about the scheme can be found here.
