The following article appeared in the October-November 2023 issue of the Village Voice magazine:-
A Mystery to Solve
Andy Cranham has a mystery to unravel and believes our readers may be able to help.
He and his wife were married in Thurlestone in 1996 as her family have been residents in the area since the 1920’s. Her paternal grandparents Theresa and Armitage Bryan-Brown had Albineham built in the 1960’s and were involved in the golf club.
He recently found a book of negatives in a barn on their farm in Fleet, Hampshire, which show Thurlestone and the surrounding area with his grandfather on his mothers side (Bolton) holidaying. He and his brother Bill are the only people he can identify.
He’s looking for any help to identify anyone in the photos, especially the golfers as in the 1920’s/30’s they must have been regulars at the club. The tennis photos may also have been taken at the club.
He hopes that the running of the hounds to Burgh Island must be an occasion that some readers may have knowledge of. He has supplied the photos described and has plenty more, but they are too large to include (in the magazine), so can be found (below).
If you can help Andy please email him directly on [email protected].
