Village Voice Magazine
Village Voice is the name of the bi-monthly magazine for the residents of Thurlestone Parish - the community of Bantham, Buckland and Thurlestone. The magazine was founded by Dudley Drabble and first appeared in July 1982, with a print run of 360 copies. Since then it has flourished under editors Kendall McDonald and, until recently, Pat Macdonald, and today around 600 copies are produced.
It is now edited by a team of local residents, supported by another group who compile the articles into the finished magazine. It is then printed, collated and delivered by a number of volunteers and so is a true "community magazine".
It is delivered free to all permanent residents in the parish, posted to numerous other regular visitors, and can be purchased in the Thurlestone and Bantham Village Stores.
If you would like to contact any of the Village Voice team regarding any editorial matter you can do so through Graham and Barbara Smith, email [email protected]. If you have an advertising enquiry please contact Mike Bone, email [email protected].
We are fortunate to have a complete archive of the Village Voice from Issue No.1 to the present day - in August 2016 we passed Issue No. 200! It represents a fascinating snapshot of the Parish over the last 40 years. They are available here through this website and have been organised into groups, by decade, to make it easier to find the issue you are looking for. Most of the magazines have been scanned and converted to PDF format, so the quality is somewhat variable, but they are all totally readable. However, from the April-May 2016 issue the magazine has been produced from digital originals, so the quality is much improved.
The latest issue of the magazine is not available online. You can read the previous issue (June - July 24) by clicking here.
