The rise in the cost of living means that we're all having to dig a little deeper to pay for household essentials such as food and energy. Many people in Devon are being forced to make difficult decisions, especially those on the lowest incomes.
If you don’t have enough money to live on, it's important to make sure you know what support is available, so Devon County Council have put together a special edition of their Connect Me newsletter to help. Please click on the link below to view the newsletter.

Devon Road Warden Scheme – Would you be interested in volunteering?
Thurlestone Parish Council is now part of the Devon Highways “Road Warden Scheme”. This allows the community to carry out minor works such as filling small potholes, repairing signposts or clearing blocked drains, using funds from the County Council. The intention is not to do the Highways Department’s job for them, but to ensure that small issues don’t become major problems that we are forced to wait for a long time to be fixed. It will also give us a closer working relationship with the Highways team, so we can hopefully influence the priority of any larger scale work on our patch.
What are the benefits of the Road Warden Scheme?
What type of work can be done by Road Warden volunteers?
Road Wardens would not be responsible for carrying out safety repairs as this remains the responsibility of the council.
What insurance cover does Devon County Council provide?
In the unlikely event of a claim, DCC will cover the public liability aspect of insurance for voluntary work on the public highway or footway, providing it is undertaken in a safe manner according to DCC advice. This, for example, would cover any claims by third party as a result of works, which the county council would defend if works were done in accordance with DCC advice.
If you would like to know more about the scheme, or feel you can spare a few hours to help, please contact Helen Leather via email at thurlestoneparish@gmail.com. Full details about the scheme can be found here.
