Tramping in Thurlestone

We are so fortunate in the village to have a very active walking group known as Tramps.
This informal group is an ideal way of getting exercise and enjoying our wonderful area, with the additional bonus of socialising, chatting and enabling us to feel part of a community. For those new to the area this is an excellent way of getting to know the area and to make new friends.
Although we refer to “members” this is a very loose term as friends, visitors, or people who wish to join the walks on an ad hoc basis are very welcome to participate.
Our programme plans to achieve an organised walk every week but there may be a few gaps or changes in the schedule. The schedule is put in the Village Voice and on this website.
“Members” volunteer to lead the walks and they can then choose the day of the week and the location of the walk. With such a wide range of beautiful countryside, we can be on the coast one week and in the middle of Dartmoor the next week. Group sizes range from 6 to 18 but frequently there are about 12 walkers on any week. The fitness level is very diverse and the pace of the walks is modified accordingly. Dogs are always welcome.
Walks vary in length from 4 to 7 miles and the leader specifies the length and difficulty when advising the details of their walk. Seven days’ notice of the walk is the norm and is emailed to members and when we remember (!!) we put a notice in the village shop.
We generally have a refreshment plan which might be a picnic or a pub lunch or café.
We meet to car share on Court Park. Some participants might find it more convenient to meet at the start of the walk.
This is a great way to improve your fitness and to maintain your social skills and have some fun and adventure!
